Carbon Farm - Bioplastic Design
Carbon Farm is an interactive art piece developed by Jiabao Li and Ben J. Evanson that captures CO₂ from human breath and transforms it into bioplastic. Exhibited at SIGGRAPH 2024 in Tokyo, the project incorporated Shinto-inspired amulets, collaboratively designed by myself, Siyu Feng, and Ceren Ozgan.

In the Shinto tradition, visitors offer amulets at shrines after making prayers to Shinto spirits. Similarly, the algae-based amulets created for Carbon Farm serve as ecological offerings. Participants blow into the contraption, symbolizing a prayer for ecological peace, and gift their bioplastic amulet back to the machine, merging spiritual and environmental reflection.
